Balkány
Balkányi redwood
Balkány, Csiffytanya
~12 km
In Csiffypuszta, on the outskirts of Balkány in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county, we find one of the oldest mammoth pines in Hungary. Surviving for a century and a half, the twenty-eight metre tall pine is one of the town's main attractions, and one of which the locals are immensely proud. It's no wonder that it's such a prominent tree in the birch wilderness that it's a popular attraction in the area.
Originally native to North America, the sequoia once stood in the park of Jarmy Castle. According to some sources, the tree was planted in 1853, while others say it was planted in the 1860s by József Finta, a resident of Balkány. It is the only tree in the impressive ornamental garden to have survived a century and a half of struggles, struck by lightning in 1968. As a result, the tree split in two and lost half of its crown. The local residents then joined forces and thanks to their joint efforts, we can still admire the beautiful tree today.
The mammoth pine tree can also be visited by renting electric bicycles from the Mansion, thanks to the network of cycle paths.
Nagykálló
István Szilágyi Memorial House and Local History Collection
Nagykálló, Mártírok str. 58.
~7 km
István Szilágy was born in Nagykálló, near the house marked with the memorial plaque. He was an educator, college director-teacher and a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He wrote works on church history, local history and pedagogy. He was close friends with János Arany and Sándor Petőfi.
The building currently houses an ethnographic and local history collection.
When the museum was opened in 2005, only the first room of the building was furnished, presenting the history and choreography of the Kállai Double Ballad, a tradition that still lives on in the city. Over the next nine years, each room was filled with thematically arranged objects.
The second and largest room is the local history room. Here you can see a model of the former castle of Kálló, as well as relics of the 1848-49 War of Independence.
The third contains relics of the pre-electrification period and a slice of industrial history: a shoemaker's workshop, a tailor's workshop, straw weaving patterns, local embroidery. Finally, the corridor displays hand tools of agriculture.
The local history collection contains 4,000 objects, mainly ethnographic, that give visitors an insight into the city's past. In 2008, the collection received the "Museum of the Year" award.

Kállósemjén
Kállay Kúria
Kállósemjén, Kossuth str. 94.
~8 km
The Kállay family is one of the ancient Hungarian noble families, which came to the Carpathian Basin as a member of the Hungarian elite and played a significant role in Hungarian history over the centuries.
In the history of the family, the reign of King Sigismund stands out. During this period, the family's fortune grew, Kállósemjén came into their possession, and their coat of arms also dates from this time.
A család életében Kállósemjén az 1920-30-as években játszotta a legfontosabb szerepet, hiszen Dr. Kállay Miklós miniszterelnök itt töltötte családjával a nyarakat, országos jelentőségű mintagazdaságot hozott létre.
The baroque Kállay mansion was built around 1763 by the Italian architect Salvator Aprilis, commissioned by György Kállay from the county house of Nagykálló. The original core of the mansion is the central six rooms with the hall, the eastern wing end, the terraced part with a floor, was added to the building at the beginning of the 19th century. The building and the park were damaged during the Second World War. From 1948-49 the mansion was used as a workers' dwelling by the forestry company, the parquet floor was oiled and wood was cut.
The Apagyi State Farm took possession in 1949 and used it as a storehouse, storing fertiliser and crops in the once beautiful rooms. In 1964, the building was restored and declared a monument at the expense and under the supervision of the National Monument Protection Inspectorate. Unfortunately, the remaining inlaid floors of the mansion were removed at the same time. In the mid-1990s the building lost all its functions and fell into disrepair. The renovation was aimed at restoring it to its 1920s condition.
The mansion houses the following exhibitions.
History of the Kállay family:
The exhibition aims to present the history of our nation and our region through the Kállay family.
Játékkiállítás:
The show will also include an exhibition on the history of games, where visitors will be able to see popular games from the early 20th century.
In the playroom, the youngest children can play with toys that evoke the atmosphere of the era, but are perfectly suited to the needs of today's children.
Car history exhibition:
Why were the cars needed? How did assembly line production start? Who was Joseph the Dove? These questions are answered in the car history exhibition. You can also admire a 1931 Ford A model, a similar car to the one once used by Prime Minister Miklós Kállay.
Coffee house:
In our mansion we have created a nostalgic café reminiscent of the 20-30's, with a Herendi coffee machine with a Victoria pattern as a jewel.

Jósa András Museum
Nyíregyháza, Benczúr square 21.
~18 km
One of the oldest museums in the country, founded in 1868.
The Jósa András Museum in Nyíregyháza has the largest and most important collection of archaeological artefacts to date. This is thanks to the interest of the founder of the museum, András Jósa. From the very beginning, his aim was to preserve the monuments hidden in the county's land in a worthy place. It is almost symbolic that the first items in the museum's collection are archaeological artefacts, the Roman finds from a grave in Geszteréd, dug in November 1868.
LOCAL HISTORY COLLECTION
A local history collection, which collects objects from the former Szabolcs County, later Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County. Among its sub-collections, the World War I badge collection, the village seal prints of Szabolcs County, the county flags and the militaria collection, which displays the history of the military of Nyíregyháza, play an important role.
HISTORICAL DOCUMENT LIBRARY
The history of the Historical Document Collection, with more than sixteen thousand items, dates back to 1967, when the museum's historians at the time thought it worthwhile to take inventory of paper objects relating to the history of our city and county. In theory, the collection can be divided into several types of objects, although the inventory book does not distinguish their significance. An important group is that of documents similar to archival material, i.e. documents relating to the history of Nyíregyháza and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County. For example, a copy of one of the 1753 settlement pacts of the city of Nyíregyháza issued by Ferenc Károlyi (dated 16 May 1753) is kept in the Historical Document Collection of the museum. There are also numerous documents relating to the guild industry of the town from 1818 onwards, when local craftsmen were allowed to set up their own guilds in Nyíregyháza. Historical documents can be found in the collection up to the present day.
NUMISMATIC COLLECTION
The numismatic collection of the Jósa András Museum consists of more than 50,000 coins. The collection was founded by the museum's founder, András Jósa András. The real boom, however, occurred under the directorship of Lajos Kiss and from the 1960s onwards.
Lajos Kiss devoted a great deal of attention to the enrichment of the medal material, and it was at this time that a significant part of the ancient collection was added to the collection, both by private donation. The material includes coins from the 4th century BC, including Greek, Egyptian and Carthaginian coins. The Roman material was also assembled by donation, with a collection of mainly imperial bronzes (sestertius, dupondius, ases) and denarii.
Since the 1960s, the Jósa András Museum has also received several large finds that are very important traces of the county's monetary circulation in the 16th and 17th centuries. Several leelets from Nyíribroiny, the denarius leelets from Nyírpetel, and the Árpád-era coins from Ecsed each added thousands of coins to the numismatic collection.
Since the mid-1990s, new finds have been added to the museum. These include the nationally renowned gold medal from Újfehérto, the more than 4,000 pieces from Kisvarsány, and the Roman Republican denarius found near Rakamaz.
FINE ART COLLECTION
The fine art collection of the Jósa András Museum was founded by the former director of the institution, Lajos Kiss. The museum houses works by such renowned local artists as Endre Barzó, András Berecz, Balázs Diószegi, István Huszár, István Kádas, Dénes Ősz, Gyula Pál, Sándor Sebestyén, Ernő Schubert, Tamás Szikora, András Váci and many more.
As well as collecting contemporary art, the museum has always taken great care to expand its existing collections and to collect works of local importance that celebrate the art of earlier periods.
The Benczúr collection of about 46 pieces, which was donated to Nyíregyháza by the painter's widow (Kata Piroska Ürmössy Boldizsár Kata) in 1921, was registered in our museum in 1950 and has been continuously enriched ever since.
In addition to the above, there are several other permanent and temporary exhibitions:

It is an iconic building of Debrecen, a symbol of the Hungarian Reformed Church, a National Monument, an architectural monument, a tourist attraction - and we could go on and on about why the Reformed Church of Debrecen is so important.
The church was built at the beginning of the 19th century, after its predecessor, the Church of St Andrew, was destroyed by fire in 1802. It is the largest Reformed church in Hungary by floor area, with a capacity of over 2000 people. Today, the church is visited by tens of thousands of people every year, who can visit the churchyard, the biblical exhibitions, the loft, the towers and the bells, and the panoramic walkway between the two towers, which offers a beautiful view of downtown Debrecen.

Pools
Swimming and wave pool
The 27-28 ˚C swimming and wave pool gradually deepens. At certain times the water's power is experienced in the form of waves. The thrilling waves are enjoyed by young and old alike. Between two swells, you can also try the water hopper in this pool.
Children and baby pool
In the children's pool, little ones can enjoy a dip in the pleasant water. Climbing on the water climbers and splashing down the water slide is a real treat. The dragon slide, elephant slide and mushroom shower are also popular with children. The adventure baths are not to be missed by the little ones. The baby pool can be used with a waterproof nappy for children aged 0-3 years. A special feature of the pool is that the water is disinfected not with chlorine, but with a baby-friendly disinfectant that is gentle on babies' skin and does not sting their eyes. Little ones can sit on the turtle and of course they can slide in the 34-36 ˚C water.
Slides
Giant slide
In the water park you will find the orange and yellow slides with lush tropical vegetation, which are the largest and most exciting. The braver ones can slide down the enclosed slide from a height of 9 metres and splash into 28-30 C water at the end. Once you've tried this experience, you'll want to repeat the thrill.
Kamikaze slide
We recommend the open kamikaze slide for those who are not afraid of a fast, dynamic and spooky splash.
Hydro slide
We recommend the green and blue slides for those who haven't yet built up the courage to try the orange, yellow or kamikaze slides. On this slide, you can enjoy the dizzying thrills of the many twists and turns, followed by a nice splash at the end.
Family slide
Beginners can also get their first slide experience on the red slide. On the family slide, dad, mum and kids can have fun together.
Children and baby slides
The children's and baby pools are safe for the little ones to slide around in. Little ones can choose from a range of slides to suit their age and bravery.
Experience elements
Drifting aisles
Let yourself be carried away by the current and just enjoy the pleasant drift. One of our two drifting rivers, located in the adventure pool, and the other takes you outdoors*, making your aquatic adventure even more exciting.
Cave baths
In the caves of the adventure pool, bathers can enjoy the pleasant massaging power of the waterfall.
Mushroom and neck showers, carrion baths
The mushroom and neck showers in the adventure and wave pools complement the bathing experience with a pleasant massage. There's nothing like a jet of water to massage your tired back, shoulders and neck.
Geyser
The geyser that erupts in the pool from time to time is a special attraction.
Jacuzzi
While the kids have fun on the slide or in the children's pool, mum and dad can relax in the Jacuzzi. Two group jacuzzis with 33-36 ˚C and four family jacuzzis for 4-6 persons are available for relaxation.

We have a children's playground on the first floor of the water park, next to the giant slides. After a day of splashing around and trying out water games, children can enjoy new adventures here. The two-storey children's playground is open to children aged 3-12, with parental supervision.

Déri Museum
Debrecen, Déri square 1.
~35 km
The Déri Museum is located in the centre of Debrecen, on Déri Square, in a neo-empire style building that opened to the public in 1930.
In addition to the ever-growing collections of archaeology, natural history, history, ethnography, applied arts and fine arts, the world-famous Christ Trilogy by Mihály Munkácsy is on display at the Déri Museum in Debrecen.
Permanent exhibitions:
Cívisek Világa - Urban History Exhibition
Our main aim with this exhibition is to give people living today a piece of the city's history, the stories that make the past worth telling. Because the city where we live determines almost every important aspect of our lives. But it is not only the city of the present where we live our daily lives, but also the city(s) of the past that we cannot see. It's strange, a little chilling, to think that the house we live in, the shopping centre where we regularly shop, the school our children go to or any other building today was once a cemetery, a church or the home of someone famous or anonymous. We may be walking in the footsteps of Péter Méliusz Juhász, Lajos Domokos, István Hatvani, Sámuel Kiss, Mihály Fazekas, Dániel Rakovszky, Imre Simonffy, József Csanak and others unknown to us every day. The inhabitants of this invisible city are with us.
2. "The inhabitants of the starry sky" - archaeological exhibition
In our archaeological exhibition entitled Inhabitants of the Starry Sky, the artists sketched a general picture of death.
The exhibition mainly presents the results of our excavations in the museum's collection area over the past twenty years, from a unique perspective. The time frame ranges from the Middle Neolithic to the Hungarian occupation. In addition to the customs and artefacts, the exhibition also presents the intellectual background and ideas related to burial, death and the afterlife. At this point, the archaeological exhibition is linked to the unique Egyptian collection of the Déri Museum. Visitors can discover it in the tomb of an Egyptian nobleman.
3. Samurai mansion - Martial arts or arts and combat?
The Japanese collection of the Déri Museum is not only significant in Hungary, but also internationally. In his collecting work, Frigyes Déri was primarily looking for typical Japanese objects from the Edo period (1603-1867). As a result, many objects from the flourishing Japanese craftsmanship can be seen in the museum today.
4. Weapons history exhibition - Deadly beauties:
One of the largest and most colourful groups of artifacts in the Déri legacy is the modern weapons collection. Frigyes Déri's primary aim was not to assemble the most complete set of weapons of any one type, but to include as many and as varied a range of weapons as possible.
5. Old Gallery - Treasures of Fine Art
In the old picture gallery you can see works of art from the 17th and 19th centuries, most of which were donated to the museum by Frigyes Déri.
The exhibited works present a period rich in turns, from the Baroque monuments to the Classical works of art, to the most outstanding period of our national painting, the flowering of historical painting.
6. Déri Memorial Hall - "I give to Debrecen..."
The year 1920 brought a decisive turn in the history of the museum in Debrecen. Frigyes Déri visited the museum for the first time on 18 October and announced that he would donate his collection to Debrecen. His wish was that his collection should be placed in a Hungarian city which, by its size and character, was suitable for becoming a public treasure of Hungarian culture.
7. The Munkácsy Trilogy - "I wanted to depict God in human form."
This is how the artist, whose monumental works depicting the Passion of Christ are on display in the Munkácsy Room, perhaps the museum's most popular exhibition space. The paintings depict the conflict between Christ and his accusers, culminating in the fulfillment of the Word, Christ's death on the cross.
8. Great Forest - Nature's garden
The permanent natural history exhibition offers a glimpse into the past and present of the forest north of Debrecen, which has been extensively merged with the city. The collections of plants and animals, the tools of the past and present, the relics of the history of science and the special world of forest people: hunters, beekeepers, carob gatherers, forestry pickers, etc. are presented in a cosy environment.
