The world-famous Nyíregyháza Zoo is home to 5,000 specimens of 500 animal species, divided by continent. One of Hungary's most visited rural tourist attractions, it won the Best European Zoo in its category in 2015, 2018 and 2021. The 35-hectare zoo with its unique atmosphere showcases rare and endangered animal species in buildings such as the Green Pyramid Zoo, which won the Innovation Grand Prize. The park is home to countless rare species, with 4 subspecies of tiger alone on display.
As a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), Nyíregyháza Zoo is involved in more than 100 species conservation and breeding programmes, including the successful breeding of the African elephant and the Indian rhinoceros.
The park is also known as the zoo of leges, as it has a special atmosphere like no other that is almost unimaginable and worth experiencing in person.
